Charter Bus Carrying Bluffton University Baseball Players Plunges from Highway Ramp, Kills Six

A charter bus carrying a college baseball team from Bluffton University crashed through a guard rail and plunged over an overpass landing on the highway below early Friday morning.

Six passengers on the bus were killed when the driver may have mistakenly thought an exit ramp was a lane and went sent the bus plunging from an overpass. Four players, the driver and his wife were listed as killed in the accident while 29 passengers were listed as injured.

The team was heading south on Interstate 75 when the accident occurred. They had been passing through Atlanta on their way to Sarasota where they were scheduled to play their first game on Saturday.

Bluffton University is located about 50 miles south of Toledo, Ohio. The school, affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA, has an enrollment of 1,150 students.
