Hurricane Ida Strikes Nicaragua

Tropical Storm Ida strengthened in to a hurricane Thursday before hitting Nicaragua’s eastern coast. Ida is producing maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Flash floods and mudslides are expected to be the biggest dangers in Nicaragua and Honduras. Some areas could see as much as 30 inches of rain.

Hurricane Ida is expected to weaken as it moves inland and re-strengthen into a tropical storm as it emerges back over the Caribbean. The National Hurricane Center places Ida at the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula by Monday. The storm is expected to make it into the Gulf of Mexico, though it is still unclear if it will affect Florida.
