Denver Broncos Quarterback Jake Plummer Retires

The Denver Broncos traded quarterback Jake Plummer to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but Plummer elected to retire thus nullifying the deal.

Plummer had wanted to be assured that he would be the starting quarterback in Tampa I the trade was made. No such guarantee was given so Plummer opted to retire.

The 32-year-old quarterback lost his starting position in Denver to rookie Jay Cutler last season. From that point on Plummer and head coach Mike Shanahan had a strained relationship and it became clear that the former second-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals would not be back.

Denver was willing to accept a fourth-round draft pick in this year’s draft for Plummer.

Plummer finished his 10-year career with 161 touchdown passes, 29,253 yards passing and 161 interceptions in 143 games.
