American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE:AEO) plunged 10.50% to $15.99 after it said Thursday its October same-store sales fell 5%. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters forecast an increase in same-store sales of 1.7%. The retailer expects third-quarter adjusted earnings of 20 to 21 cents a share. Analysts expect earnings of 22 cents a share, according to a survey by FactSet Research.
Aeropostale, Inc. (NYSE:ARO) fell 13% to $33.11 after it said Thursday that its October sales at stores open at least one year increased 3%. Analysts, on average, had expected same-store sales to rise 13.8%, according to Thomson Reuters. Total net sales for the four-week period ended Oct. 31, 2009 increased 9% to $138.8 million, from $127.4 million for the four-week period ended Nov. 1, 2008, the company said. Aeropostale boosted its third-quarter earnings outlook to a range of 90 cents and 91 cents a share, up from between 84 cents and 85 cents a share previously.
Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE:JWN) trading flat at $32.46 after it said Thursday that its October sales at stores open at least one year rose 6.5%. Analysts, on average, had expected same-store sales to rise 3.0%, according to Thomson Reuters. Total for the four weeks ended Oct. 31 rose 14.8% to $607 million.
