Don’t mess with Taylor Swift, or you may have to contend with a league of angry fans like Abercrombie and Fitch was forced to do this week.
Swift fans, also known as Swifties, were less than impressed when the clothing company began selling a t-shirt emblazoned with the phrase “# more boyfriends than t.s.” Feeling that the shirt was “hurtful” because it apparently made fun of the singer’s failed relationships with stars like Jake Gyllenhaal and Harry Styles, the angry Swifties created a petition at change.org. Another fan recorded herself complaining to Abercrombie’s public relations department. She posted the video on YouTube and included the department’s phone number in the description.
Abercrombie responded to the backlash quickly. The company pulled the shirt from shelves and left a recorded message on their public relations department line. “If you are calling regarding the Taylor Swift T-shirt, please note that this item is no longer available,” the recording says.
The company also tried to quiet the storm with a nice tweet about Swift. “Hey #swifties we no longer sell the tshirt. We <3 Taylor's music and think she's awesome!” the company tweeted.
Swift, 23, has not commented on the t-shirt controversy.
