Death Toll Following Fort Hood Shooting Stands at 12, More than 30 Wounded

The death toll from Thursday’s shooting at the Fort Hood army base in Killeen, Texas has reached 12 with more than 30 people left wounded.

Lt. Gen. Bob Cone addressed journalists outside the military base about three hours after the shooting, confirming that the shooter was a U.S. soldier and two more U.S. soldiers were captured and are being treated as suspects.

According to Cone the soldier opened fire with two handguns at the Soldier Readiness Facility at Fort Hood before being shot and killed by a police officer on the base.

The army base remains on lock down while military officials work with law enforcement officials to determine the current safety level of the base. There have been no details released concerning the identities of those killed but one civilian police officer is among the dead.
