Slain Fort Hood Shooter Identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan

A slain gunman responsible for the fatal shooting at Fort Hood Thursday has been identified by a police source as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. The source believes Hasan was 39 or 40 years old.

Eleven people were killed and 31 wounded in the shooting at the sports dome. Ten of the dead were soldiers, while the other was a civilian police officer working as a contractor on base.

The shooter had two handguns. Fort Hood spokesman Lt. Gen. Bob Cone says local police response forces responded to the scene and killed the gunman. Two other soldiers have been detained as suspects.

No other details were available.

Fort Hood, located near Killeen, Texas, is the Army’s largest United States post with about 40,000 troops.
