Sixteen new houseguests entered the Big Brother house this week to begin the 90 day competition that will ultimately earn one of them $500,000. Like past Big Brother seasons, the season 15 houseguests are let into the house in small groups. They all claim their beds upon entering.
Following the classic meet and greet – in which Spencer, Howard and Jeremy quickly form a secret alliance – Julie Chen gathers the contestants in the living room to deliver the first twist of the season. She informs the group that three people will be nominated for eviction each week instead of only two. Aside from assuring them that the Head of Household will pick two of the nominees, Chen refuses to give additional details about the twist.
For the first HOH competition each houseguest had to hold on to a giant popsicle for as long as possible. As the competition progressed, those remaining on their popsicles were sprayed with cold water and hit with a giant tongue. At the three hour mark McCrae, David, Jeremy, Nick and Aaryn were still in the running for HOH. Aaryn was the first to fall. Chen then announced a small twist – one of the two lunch pails sitting on the table contained a pass that allows its holder to never be a Have Not. The next two people to fall will open the pails. Jeremy convinces David to fall first. David opens the wrong pail, so Jeremy jumps off his popsicle to score the Have Not Pass. It’s down to Nick and McCrae. McCrae assures Nick that he is completely safe from nomination this week. Nick falls and McCrae becomes the first HOH of season 15.
After the competition, Chen gathers the houseguests in the living to deliver some more news about the twist. She reveals that the third nomination will be made by a houseguest America chooses as that week’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). That person can choose to remain anonymous or can reveal themselves as the MVP.
