Thomas More College (TMC) and American Cornhole Organization (ACO) partner to bring awareness to veterans of higher education options available at the college.
This event which is scheduled on July 27, 2013 will be the first year American Cornhole and Thomas More will hold a cornhole tournament to build out a scholarship fund and introduce veterans and the general public to available educational programs.
The goal for these two organizations is to make this an annual event where fun activities and games are offered and to provide campus tours to veterans, the general public and their family members.
Additionally, Thomas More College participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program which was established by the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows institutions of higher learning (such as colleges, universities, and other degree-granting schools) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition and defer fee expenses that exceed the tuition fee amounts payable under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Next, portions of the tournament entry fees will be used towards the Heroes Cup Scholarship Fund. This tournament will feature a 70% cash payout from registration and will seek a maximum of 128 teams to participate in the tournament, which is open to anyone interested in helping build the fund. Entry fees per team of two players will consist of a $30
online registration and if not registered online there will be available a walk-up fee of $40 dollars on the day of the event.
Participants will be placed into a round robin with top teams advancing into a single elimination tournament. The winning team will also receive a ticket entry into the $20,000 West Virginia Cornhole Cup taking place September 20-21, 2013 in Charleston, WV.
