Pierce Brosnan has confirmed he lost his daughter to ovarian cancer last Friday. Charlotte had battled the disease, which killed her mother Cassandra Harris in 1991, for the past three years. She leaves behind her husband, Alex Smith, and their two children, 14-year-old Isabella and 8-year-old Lucas.
"On June 28 at 2 p.m. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, her children Isabella and Lucas and her brothers Christopher and Sean,” Brosnan said in a statement to People magazine.
"Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl," he added. "We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences."
No other details were immediately available.
The James Bond actor adopted Charlotte and Christopher after he married Harris in 1980. Charlotte and Christopher were Harris’ children with her second husband, Dermot Harris. Brosnan and Harris had a son together, Sean Brosnan, in 1983.
