George Strait, Brooks & Dunn and American Idol Contestants Lead Pack for nominations at 2007 Academy of Country Music Awards

The 42nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards announced their nominees for the 2007 show and George Strait and Brooks & Dunn had their name called the most on Monday morning. Broadcasting from the Country Music Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville, Kenney Chesney and Sugarland called Strait’s name eight times while Brooks & Dunn received seven nominations.

As last year’s Entertainer of the Year, Chesney revealed that both Strait and Brooks & Dunn would be vying to take his spot. Joining Chesney, Strait, and Brooks & Dunn in the Entertainer of the Year category will be Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts.

Former American Idol Carrie Underwood led the female nominee class with five nods. Underwood is up for Top Female Vocalist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Single Record of the Year and Video of the Year.

Strait will be competing with Underwood for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Single Record of the Year and Video of the Year. He was also nominated for Top Male Vocalist, and Vocal Event.

American Idol will also be represented by Kellie Pickler, who was nominated as Top New Female Artist.

The ACM Awards will be handed out on May 15 in Las Vegas.
