Drug and Alcohol Rehab CT - Mountainside Treatment Center has been a major supporter of drug prevention efforts. Through its extensive outreach programs and external affairs office, it regularly interacts with and donates to community organizations devoted to the cause of drug prevention and to the accessibility to drug addiction and alcoholism treatment. Last week a national drug prevention campaign - Red Ribbon Week- was underway and thousands of voices joined together to show their support for drug prevention, addiction treatment and anti drug trafficking efforts.

Thousands of lives are touched each day by drug addiction and alcoholism and the need for organizations that facilitate drug prevention and affordable drug and alcohol rehab services has never been more acute. The borders of Mexico have been a major source of drugs entering into this country that find their way into the lives of millions of Americans.

The case of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena highlights the violence and destruction most often associated with drug addiction. As an undercover DEA agent he fought to curtail the heroin, cocaine and marijuana trafficking through Mexico into the United States. On February 7, 1985 he was kidnapped in broad daylight and was later discovered dead on March 5^th. Enrique is survived by his wife and their three sons. In honor of his life and dedication to the cause of fighting drug addiction and drug trafficking, the Red Ribbon Week was invented – it is now the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country.
