Manny Ramirez will be returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers next season after the slugger declared he would be exercising his $20 million option for 2010.
Ramirez could have opted-out of the two-year $45 million deal he signed just prior to the 2009 season but decided to stay in LA. It was doubtful he could have received the same kind of money with another club.
Ramirez served a 50-game suspension in the 2009 season after violating baseball’s drug policy and in the 104 regular-season games in which he played he hit .290 with 19 home runs and 63 RBIs.
