Heavy rains have sparked massive flooding across El Salvador, killing at least 40 people and leaving several more missing.
El Salvador has been hammered by days of rain which led to authorities declaring a state of emergency for the country. Officials have already said they expect the death toll to rise significantly as rescue crews make their way into areas that have been cut off due to the conditions.
While Hurricane Ida past to the east of El Salvador the rains were not being blamed on the storm, rather forecasters have said a separate low pressure system brought the storm.
