Steven Tyler has reportedly left his band Aerosmith.
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry tells the Las Vegas Sun that Tyler, 61, has quit,
but he insists he has no other details.
“Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don’t know any more
than you do about it. I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other
than that, I don’t know,” Perry says.
Apparently a rift formed between band members in August
when Aerosmith was forced to cancel the rest of their tour due to Tyler falling
off the stage during an Abu Dhabi concert.
“Obviously, he hasn't been giving 100 percent for a long
time,” Perry said. “Frankly, the last few months I've been wanting not to rock
the boat. I don't want him canceling any more gigs. We really wanted to do
these last four. We didn't want to call him out or get him pissed off, for
whatever reason. So we just let things lie.”
Perry, 59, also insists the show will go on for Aerosmtih
with or without Tyler. “We'll probably find somebody else, and then we'll be
able to move Aerosmith up a notch,” he added.
Tyler has not commented. He recently told Classic Rock
magazine his next project is “definitely going to be something Steven Tyler,
working on the brand of myself – Brand Tyler.”
Tyler, Perry, bassists Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer
and guitarist Ray Tabano formed Aerosmith in 1970. In 1971 Tabano was replaced
by Brad Whitford. Aerosmith was signed to Columbia Records in 1972 and released
their debut album the next year.
