The Miami Dolphins signed outside linebacker Joey Porter to a five-year, $32 million contract in an attempt to solidify an already impressive defensive front. A large chunk of Porter’s contract, $20 million, is guaranteed.
Porter, who had played his entire played his entire eight-year career with the Steelers, was released last week after the team determined they would be unable to sign him after his contract expired at the end of the 2007 season.
The addition of Porter gives the Dolphins another legitimate pass rusher to go alongside Jason Taylor. Miami had the AFC’s fourth ranked defense last season and was third behind the Baltimore Ravens and San Diego Chargers in total team sacks.
