WHEELING, W.V. (October 26, 2009) -- A Vermont man running barefoot across America will visit the Samaritan House youth shelter on Wednesday to meet residents and staff and discuss ways to improve its services.
Knudson is running barefoot across America to raise $100,000,000.00 to aid homeless youth in a project called RunTellmanRun. He left New York City on Sept. 9 and hopes to reach Los Angeles by mid-winter. He is currently running west toward the Ohio border on Rte. 40, averaging about 20 miles per day.
Knudson is visiting youth shelters as he makes his way across the country, learning about their successes and shortcomings and determining the most effective way to help homeless teens in America.
While running through State College, Penn. on October 7, Knudson visited the Stepping Stone youth shelter and pledged the next $10,000 in donations to renovate its kitchens.
Last week he met with Pittsburgh Steeler Brett Keisel at The Hub, a homeless youth stop-in center in Pittsburgh, where they both autographed a football to be auctioned off.
Media are invited to attend the event and are asked to contact Luke Stafford, RunTellmanRun's PR agent, at luke@runtellmanrun.com or 802-275-2749 for more info.
About the Samaritan House:
Youth Services System has worked with young people and their families for more than 35 years offering support and services. Starting in 1974, YSS opened Samaritan House, the first licensed emergency shelter for West Virginia youth. Samaritan House in Wheeling and Helinski Shelter in Moundsville still serve boys and girls needing shelter and care. In addition, YSS serves young people and their families in schools and at home. Over 2,480 youth and families received their services in the last year. Starting in 2006, Youth Services System became an affiliate of Safe Place, a national program that gives youth a place to get help fast. Local businesses and organizations serve as Safe Place where a young person in need can help from Youth Services System. http://www.youthservicessystem.org/About RunTellmanRun:
