Whether former American Idol Jennifer Hudson suffers from a selective memory or has momentary spells of amnesia, the Oscar winning actress of “Dreamgirls” has publicly criticized ‘Idol’ judge Simon Cowell for his lack of support while she was on the talent show.
Unfortunately for Hudson, Cowell happened to be one of her biggest supporters on the show and had even called her a frontrunner to be crowned the American Idol in season three, a season that eventually crowned Fantasia Barrino with the title.
Hudson’s success in “Dreamgirls” has led to public criticism over the way American Idol dropped her after reaching the top twelve. Of course there was the failure to recognize that Hudson’s departure was based solely on the public’s vote and not on the votes of Simon, Paula Abdul or Randy Jackson.
Cowell had actually expressed shock when Hudson was voted out of the competition, remarking “Tongue, floor” after the vote was revealed.
Jennifer Hudson opened the door for criticism once she asserted that Cowell had never been a fan of hers. She challenged people to review the tapes of the season and witness the abuse Simon hurled at her. When that challenge was taken Hudson appeared like an ungrateful and bitter former contestant.
Not one to take unwarranted criticism lightly, Cowell has answered Hudson’s criticism with “We put Jennifer Hudson on ‘American Idol.’ The American audience voted her out; I didn’t kick Jennifer Hudson out.”
