Big Brother 15 Recap: Week 2 HOH Competition, Nominations

Sunday’s episode of Big Brother picks up with the second Head of Household competition, which immediately followed David’s blindside and eviction. David’s showmance partner Aaryn is clearly in shock and out for blood.

The houseguests are randomly paired up for the competition. Each team of players must travel across a slippery surface to transfer BBQ sauce into a jug containing a ping pong ball. The first team to fill the jug up with enough sauce to retrieve the ball through a small hole in the lid wins HOH. They will then decide which one of them will take HOH for the week. The competitors are also given the option to fill a small jug to retrieve larger cups in which to transport their BBQ sauce.

The pairings were: Nick and Judd, Aaryn and Jeremy, GinaMarie and Candice, Spencer and Helen, Andy and Elissa, Amanda and Kaitlin, Howard and Jessie. A few teams go for the smaller jug first and retrieve the larger cups, but they don’t have enough time to catch up to Aaryn and Jeremy, who hold the lead, and Elissa and Andy. Andy can touch the ball with his fingers, but can’t get a good grip on it to pull it out. Jeremy is able to grip the ball and he wins HOH for himself and Aaryn. The Moving Company’s assumption that Jeremy will take HOH is wrong – he gives it to Aaryn because he knows he will be safe this week and he can play in HOH next week.

Just minutes after becoming HOH, Aaryn must pick the Have Nots for the week. Determined to avenge David’s blindside, she demands to know who was responsible for voting him out so she can make those people Have Nots. When no one reveals their vote, Aaryn makes Elissa, Helen and Andy Have Nots for the second week in a row. She chooses Candice as the final Have Not.

Aaryn is out for blood and won’t rest until the houseguests responsible for David’s eviction get a taste of their own medicine. Her only problem is figuring out how the votes fell. Despite the fact that Elissa was on the block last week and therefore could not vote, Aaryn places the majority of the blame on Elissa. It’s a given that Elissa will be nominated, so Aaryn only has to decide who to put up along with Elissa. Jeremy suggests Helen. Aaryn likes the idea because Helen is Elissa’s friend and closest ally.

While talking over the vote against David, Aaryn begins to suspect that Nick may have been in on the blindside plan. Andy and Helen both come clean about their votes against David, but Aaryn remains confused about the rest of the votes because both Spencer and Candice insist they voted against Elissa. Spencer actually voted to evict David, but he covered his tracks by telling Candice to vote against Elissa with him.

During a talk with Helen, Candice begins to suspect the truth about Spencer. She feels that Spencer probably told her to vote Elissa out to throw her off from the fact that he was in on the plan against David. She speculates that Spencer is probably working with Nick and Jeremy in a secret alliance. Candice suspects that Howard and McCrae could also be involved, but she can’t see where McCrae would fit in to the alliance.

Meanwhile, Aaryn and Jessie’s offensive behavior begin to rub the houseguests the wrong way. No one confronts Aaryn about her racist comments and gay slurs, but everyone is offended and talks about it in their diary room sessions. Jessie’s behavior is less offensive – she is merely desperate for a showmance and has set her sights on Nick. She follows him around and demands to know why he doesn’t like her. Nick tries to ignore her, but Jessie doesn’t take the hint.

Although Aaryn is HOH, she is easily influenced by Jeremy’s opinion and the Moving Company hopes to profit from the situation. They try to control Aaryn through Jeremy. Spencer and Nick tell Jeremy to convince Aaryn that Amanda was the mastermind behind David’s eviction. They want to send Amanda packing this week because she is getting too close to McCrae and has too much influence over him.

At the nomination ceremony, Aaryn puts Elissa and Helen on the chopping block.
