Ray Allen finished with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists while Earl Watson added 23 points and 9 assists as the Seattle Supersonics (25-35) held on to beat the New York Knicks (28-34) 100-99.
The Knicks had a perfect opportunity to tie the score with less than one second left but Stephon Marbury missed a free-throw that would have sent the game to overtime. While the Supersonics were effective from the floor, it was the foul-line that gave the Knicks the most trouble.
New York went to the line 38 times on the night but converted just 24 of their attempts. In contrast Seattle went to the line just 10 times but hit 9 of their free throws.
Seattle had built an 18 point lead in the game but Marbury led the Knicks back and they eventually took the lead 98-97 on his three-pointer with 42 seconds left. Seattle answered with a three-pointer from Allen.
Marbury had a chance to tie the score when he drove to the basket and was fouled but after sinking his first free-throw his second bounced out and ended the Knicks two-game winning streak. Marbury finished with 40 points for the Knicks.
