Minnesota Timberwolves Outlast Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers in Double-Overtime

Kevin Garnett had 26 points and 17 rebounds while Ricky Davis had 33 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists as the Minnesota Timberwolves (27-33) beat the Los Angeles Lakers (33-28) 117-107 in double overtime.

Los Angeles had a four point lead with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter but Mark Blount hit a three to cut the lead to one. The Lakers had a chance to move back up by three but Smush Parker could only hit one of two free-throws with 5 seconds remaining. Ricky Davis then drew a shooting foul with 3 seconds left and hit both his attempts to send the game to overtime.

The Lakers took a four point lead in overtime but once again they couldn’t hold on to the advantage. Ricky Davis took the lead on a Ricky Davis three-pointer with one minute remaining but Kobe Bryant answered for the Lakers with a three-pointer of his own. Davis then came up big again for the Wolves when he tipped in a Garnett miss with 3 seconds left to force double-overtime.

By the second overtime the Lakers were spent and could no longer hang with Minnesota. Smush Parker hit a runner with 3:43 left in the extra period but that was the only basket LA could hit as the Wolves finished off the comeback victory.

Kobe Bryant finished with 40 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists but the Lakers struggled from the foul-line, hitting 72 percent from the stripe.
