Randy Travis’ Condition “Has Stabilized,” Says Doctor

Randy Travis is still in critical condition with heart problems, but he is on the mend. Dr. Michael Mack, one of the physicians treating Travis at Heart Hospital Baylor Plano in Texas, says the country singer is doing better.

“His condition has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement,” Mack said Wednesday. "On behalf of his Mr. Travis’s family, friends and associates, we would like to express our extreme gratitude for the overwhelming affection and support that Mr. Travis has received.”

Another physician, Dr. William Gray, says the 54-year-old is receiving treatment for "presumptive cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure” brought on by a viral infection. Viral cardiomyopathy is a condition in which a virus infects the heart, causing the heart muscle to weaken and enlarge. Part of Travis’ treatment included the implantation of a device that helps pump blood through the heart.

No other details on Travis’ condition were released.
