The family of legendary guitarist and ‘60’s icon, Jimi Hendrix, have filed a federal lawsuit claiming that companies marketing Hendrix Electric Vodka illegally used the Jimi Hendrix name and image to promote their alcoholic beverage.
In a statement released by Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s adopted sister and chief executive of Experience Hendrix, she said “We are greatly concerned that there may be a perception that Experience Hendrix has, in some way, authorized this sale of vodka. As a matter of strict policy, we have never promoted an alcoholic beverage.”
Hendrix died in a London flat in 1970 after a night of drinking wine and taking multiple sleeping pills. Upon falling asleep Hendrix asphyxiated on his own vomit.
The Hendrix Electric Vodka depicts Hendrix’s face and signature on the bottle.
