She is a world-renowned scientist and microsurgeon and is the director of plastic surgery research and of microsurgical training at Cleveland Clinic’s department of plastic surgery. Her specialties are: microsurgery, hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, transplantation, and microcirculation research.
The results showed that the application of its lead product candidate for the wound care market, dermaPACE, appeared to significantly decrease the inflammation and tissue damage that typically occurs when blood flow is interrupted during microsurgical procedures. A prolonged cutoff of blood supply occurs during complex microsurgical procedures. This can lead to serious, post-operative complications including muscle damage and tissue necrosis.
SANUWAVE’s dermaPACE addresses these possible complications. Dr. Siemionow said, “If these [pre-clinical] results hold true in further investigations, such an effect should lead to quicker and more complete tissue healing in a variety of medical and surgical settings.” In other words, reducing inflammation through the use of PACE treatments could provide benefits to both patients and doctors.
