Canadian authorities announced late Tuesday a “mixed drug toxicity” is what killed Glee star Cory Monteith.
"At this point there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith's death was anything other than a most-tragic accident," BC Coroners Service said in a statement.
Toxicology tests determined Monteith, 31, had heroin and alcohol in his system when he died early Saturday morning in his Vancouver hotel room. The actor was previously open about his long addiction battle, which started when he was a teenager in high school. He voluntarily entered a rehab facility this past March.
After Monteith’s cause of death was announced Tuesday, the actor’s girlfriend and fellow Glee star Lea Michele released a statement thanking her supporters.
"Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she’s received from family, friends, and fans. Since Cory’s passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them," her rep said. "They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together. We continue to ask the media to respect the privacy of Lea and Cory’s family.”
