Barefoot Charity Runner Learns his Roundhouse Kicks at Mile 540

Tellman Knudson stops by Jiu Jitsu training center in Vienna, W.V.

VIENNA, W.V. (November 10, 2009) -- Tellman Knudson, the man running barefoot across America to raise $100,000,000 for homeless youth, visited the Tribal Jiu Jitsu mixed martial arts studio here this week to learn a few moves from the head coach and to explain his charity project, RunTellmanRun.

Approximately 540 miles into his 3,200-mile trek across the continent, Knudson was on a few days' break when he decided to visit Dr. David Butler's private studio across the street from his hotel.

"I've seen mixed martial artists kicking butt on television, but I've always wanted to see it in person," Knudson explained to Butler.

Butler then demonstrated the essentials of the Muay Thai boxing technique. Knudson practiced kicks and punches on his trainer, Chuck Dale, who was holding pads.

Butler said he trains a few professional and several amateur mixed martial arts fighters at his studio.

"I know your feet have to be hurtin'", Butler said to Knudson, "but we just want to wish you luck. Have fun out there."
