The Nevada Wolf Pack (28-3) took care of business early against the Idaho Vandals (4-27) and cruised to an 88-56 victory in the WAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
Nevada jumped out to a 28-10 lead against a Vandals team that finished 1-15 in the conference. By halftime the Wolf Pack were up 49-24 and head coach Mark Fox had rotated his bench into the game to give his starters plenty of rest.
A team heavy on experience, the Wolf Pack overmatched Idaho’s younger and smaller squad. Nevada committed just six turnovers in the game while the Vandals turned it over 14 times.
With Marcelus Kemp scoring 17 points and three-time conference player of the year Nick Fazekas adding 10 Nevada shot 52 percent from the floor. They also hit 44 percent from beyond the three-point arc and had a team total of 21 assists compared to Idaho’s ten.
Fazekas finished with 10 rebounds while freshman Matt LaGrone added 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in nine minutes of action.
