American Idol is down to their final 12 and Antonella Barba is not among the dozen remaining hopefuls.
Simon Cowell, ever the prophet, had told Barba on Wednesday “you've gone as far as you can go. The reality is, and I think you know this yourself, that you're surrounded by some pretty amazing girl singers and I don't know how much more you can do.”
The reality was that Barba went further than she should have in a competition that is supposed to be based on music. The 20-year-old New Jersey native gained a huge following based more on pictures that surfaced on the internet than on her voice.
By failing to make the final 12 Barba will be left off the American Idol cd that is produced each season. That may be a good thing for her as she has had several offers from varying adult web sites to become a spokesperson. Among the offers was a $250,000 gig as a Girls Gone Wild host.
The offers that Barba has received will not be extended to the other contestants that failed to make the cut. Joining Barba on the chopping block was Sabrina Sloan, Jared Cotter and Sundance Head.
Now that American Idol has whittled its way down to the final 12 the competition becomes open game. There will no longer be a guarantee that a male and female will be eliminated and if the voters have musical taste the final six will be comprised of the ladies.
