UCLA Bruins Upset in Pac-10 Tournament by California Bears

The California Bears (16-16) used a 20-5 run in the first half to gain some breathing room and held on to upset the UCLA Bruins (26-5) 76-69 in overtime to advance in the Pac-10 tournament.

The Bears got a career-high 29 points from Ayinde Ubaka and Ryan Anderson added 18 points and 8 rebounds to put Cal into the quarterfinals.

Cal looked good in the first half and built a 16-point lead before settling with a 37-25 lead at the break but the Bruins countered with a 20-4 run in the second half to grab the lead 45-41 with just over ten minutes remaining.

Neither team could go up by more than four points in the final ten points as they traded baskets. The Bruins were up 59-56 with less than a minute remaining in regulation when Ubaka hit a three-pointer to tie the score.

Darren Collison, who finished with 20 points, put the Bruins up by two but Ubaka answered one more time with a bucket with 15 seconds left to force overtime.

In the extra period the Bears were all over the Bruins and earned a trip to the Pac-10 semifinals.

UCLA did themselves in at the free-throw line hitting just 15-29 from the charity stripe.
