Surrey Orthodontist Wraps Up 3rd Annual Halloween Candy Buyback for Charity

From November 1 through November 9 Surrey orthodontist Dr. Aly Kanani hosted their Surrey orthodontist office’s annual Halloween candy buyback program, the only one of its kind in Surrey and Langley, BC. Each year Dr. Kanani selects a charity to benefit from the candy buyback. This was the third year the doctor held the buyback program, and benefits of the program will go to the British Columbia Make-A-Wish foundation.

Dr. Kanani asked his younger patients and community members to donate candy for the cause. The doctor awarded participants $1 for every pound of candy donated. Also, the office matched dollar for dollar the total cash awards given to the children throughout the buyback program.

Cash from the orthodontist will be donated to the B.C. Make-A-Wish Foundation, and all candy collected will be discarded due to safety and health reasons. Also, buyback participants will be able to contribute their cash rewards to the Make-A-Wish Foundation as well.

“Halloween so often becomes a holiday all about collecting and hoarding,” said Dr. Kanani. “Our candy buyback program is not only providing resources for our nonprofit organizations, it is teaching children the rewards of random acts of kindness and generosity.”

The candy buyback was received well by the community and the donation to the respective nonprofits should be sizeable commented Dr. Kanani.

“We haven’t calculated any totals yet,” continuing Dr. Kanani said, “but we expect this great charity to receive a sizeable contribution. All those dollar bills really add up. This just goes to show that when everybody pitches a little bit in, great things can be accomplished.”

Dr. Kanani held the candy buyback at the Guildford Orthodontics Centre in Surrey, BC. The money donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation will go towards operation costs and other expenses. The B.C. Make-A-Wish Foundation strives to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. For more information about the nonprofit organization, visit: www.makeawishbc.ca
