New York Islanders forward Chris Simon was suspended indefinitely by the NHL on Friday for hitting New York Rangers center Ryan Hollweg in the face with his stick in Thursday night’s game.
Just how long Simon’s suspension will last won’t be determined until a disciplinary hearing is conducted. That hearing is expected to take place some time next week.
The 6’3, 234 pound, forward was retaliating for a clean hit that Hollweg put on him just moments before the incident.
Simon had played in all 67 games for the Islanders this season and had 10 goals and 17 assists through Thursday’s game. The Islanders are fighting to stay in the playoffs as they sit three points ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Hollweg is not expected to miss any time as a result of the hit.
