Oakland Raiders Sign Indianapolis Colts Running Back Dominic Rhodes

The Indianapolis Colts are once again faced with the troubling task of replacing a featured running back.

On Friday morning the Oakland Raiders signed the Super Bowl standout, Dominic Rhodes, away from the Indianapolis Colts. Rhodes and the Raiders agreed to a two-year deal that could pay him up to $7.5 million.

Rhodes is expected to split time with LaMont Jordan in the Raiders backfield but could earn significant time if Jordan doesn’t recover fully from a medial collateral ligament injury he suffered last season.

The departure of Rhodes, a huge contributor to the Colts Super Bowl victory over the Chicago Bears, places Indy in an all too familiar position. After the 2005 season the Colts lost Edgerrin James to the Arizona Cardinals.

Rhodes rushed for 641 yards and five touchdowns last season. Peyton Manning often found Rhodes on dump passes out of the backfield as well. The six-year vet had 36 receptions for 231 yards pushing his yards from the line of scrimmage total to 872.
