Wayne Ellington scored 18 points while Reyshawn Terry added 10 points and 9 rebounds as the North Carolina Tar Heels (26-6) beat the Florida State Seminoles (20-12) 73-58 to advance in the ACC tournament.
The Tar Heels were able to capitalize on an awful shooting performance by FSU. The Seminoles finished a dismal 31 percent from the floor compared to North Carolina’s nearly 53 percent shooting.
UNC should have won by a lot more than the15 points that separated the two teams at the end of the game but they struggled from the foul-line the entire day. The Tar Heels actually had a better shooting percentage from the floor than they had from the line as they went 13-25 from the charity stripe. Ty Lawson was a bright spot for the Tar Heels as he converted 6-6 from the line and totaled 14 points in the game.
North Carolina will now move on to the semifinals while FSU will have to hope their win over Clemson was good enough to earn them a bid into the NCAA Tournament.
With an ACC tournament victory the Tar Heels could earn a number one seed when the March Madness field is announced on Sunday.
