Kansas Jayhawks Use Huge Second Half to Bury Oklahoma Sooners in Big 12 Tournament

Brandon Rush scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds and Sasha Kaun added 8 points and 7 rebounds as the Kansas Jayhawks (28-4) shook off a slow start and beat the Oklahoma Sooners (16-15) 64-47 to advance to the semifinals in the Big 12 Tournament.

The Sooners hung with the heavily favored Jayhawks throughout the first half and went to the locker room trailing by just two 28-26.

Oklahoma hit one of two free throws to start the second half and then the Jayhawks awoke from their slumber and went on an 18-2 tear to lead 46-29 with 11:27 left in the game. The Sooners only bucket during that stretch came at the 15:04 mark and they didn’t hit from the field again until there was 5:09 remaining and the score was 59-37.

The Sooners had four field-goals in the second half and one of those was a dunk. They finished the game with a 31 percent shooting clip that included an 18 percent effort from beyond the three-point line.

Kansas hit 48 percent from the field to advance to the Big 12 semifinals. The Jayhawks are looking to earn a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament while the Oklahoma Sooners are hoping for an NIT birth.
