Hawaii Foreclosures Up 134 Percent from Last October, Filings Drop Nationally

Foreclosures in Hawaii have jumped 134 percent from October 2008 with 925 filings for the month compared to 395 filings from the previous year.

 

While Hawaii saw foreclosures jump from one year ago there was improvement from last month as filings dropped 4.5 percent from September. That was the trend nationally as October filings were down 3.3 percent from September.

The national figure of 332,292 foreclosure filings for October was an improvement from last month but still represented an 18.8 percent increase from October 2008.

 

Nevada had the highest foreclosure rate in the country, one filing for every 80 households, with California (one filing in every 156) and Florida (one filing in every 168) landing second and third in the most recent rankings. Vermont had the fewest number of foreclosures in the country with 15 filings.
