Mario Chalmers scored 16 points while Julian Wright added 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as the Kansas Jayhawks (29-4) beat the Kansas State Wildcats (22-11) 67-61 to advance to the Big 12 Championship game.
Despite an off game from both Sasha Kaun and Brandon Rush the Jayhawks were able to get strong performances from the rest of their team to win their tenth straight.
Kansas State jumped to a 16-9 advantage in the first half but the Jayhawks responded with a 15-3 run to take the lead 24-19. By the end of the half Kansas was up 35-28.
The Jayhawks then built their lead to 14 in the second half and it appeared as if they would cruise to a big win. The Wildcats chipped away at the Jayhawks lead and eventually worked it down to four with 4:13 left in the game but that was as close as they could get.
Kansas will now take on the Texas Longhorns for the Big 12 Championship on Sunday. Kansas State will have to look for an at-large bid on Sunday from the NCAA Selection Committee to make it to the NCAA Tournament.
