Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has announced that while he has enjoyed wearing the #23 on his jersey since he was a sophomore in high school he would be switching to #6 next year as a sign of respect to Michael Jordan.
Jordan was in attendance on Thursday night when LeBron scored 34 points in a road win against the Miami Heat. After the game LeBron told TNT this would be his final year donning the number that Jordan made famous.
LeBron said, “I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon. There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant, no Dwyane Wade if there wasn't Michael Jordan first.”
The NBA’s reigning MVP went on to say “I feel like no NBA player should wear 23. I'm starting a petition, and I've got to get everyone in the NBA to sign it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it.”
