Barefoot Philanthropist to Release Telling Video Series
RunTellmanRun to publish videos detailing homeless youth issues in America.
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (November 13, 2009) -- In observance of National Homeless Youth Awareness Month, Tellman Knudson will host a special video series on his website, http://www.runtellmanrun.com/, November 16 - 23 profiling former and current homeless teens in America. Knudson will release one video each day during the week as part of his campaign to educate the public on the issue of youth homelessness.
Knudson is running from New York to Los Angeles, barefoot, to raise $100,000,000 for homeless outreach programs like Covenant House, Virgin Unite, Three Rivers Youth and Safe Place.
"It's extremely important to raise money for these excellent programs," said Knudson. "But the money won't come if people don't understand the severity of the problem, and what good people all over the country are doing to help."
Knudson said several current and former homeless teens, as well as directors and staffers at youth shelters and outreach programs in New York and Pennsylvania, were interviewed at length for the video series.
"The most pressing point to realize is that every kid we interviewed - every single one - stressed they were not homeless by choice. It is because of non-supportive circumstances at home," said Knudson.
The first video, an expose of a formerly homeless Pittsburgh resident who overcame great odds to end up at the top of his class at pharmacy school, goes live on Monday, November 16.
Knudson's barefoot run across America is presently halted in Ohio, where is he is under doctor's orders to rest and let his heel recover from tissue damage. He is 540 miles into the 3,200-mile trek.
During Homeless Youth Awareness Month, tax-deductible donations can be made at http://www.runtellmanrun.com/. All proceeds go directly to the non-profit Tellman.org.
