Josh Nesbitt threw for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding 30 yards and a score on the ground, Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 110 yards and two TDs and Demaryius Thomas had two receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (10-1) bounced back from an early 10-0 deficit to crush the Duke Blue Devils (5-5) 49-10 on Saturday and clinch the ACC Coastal division and earn a berth into the ACC championship game.
Duke jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter after quarterback Thaddeus Lewis found Re'quan Boyette on an 18-yard touchdown pass and Will Snyderwine kicked a 31-yard field goal but the quick strike Yellow Jackets responded and cut their deficit to 10-7 on a 2-yard keeper from Nesbitt just before the end of the opening frame.
Tech found their groove in the second quarter as Marcus Wright scored on a 16-yard run for a 14-10 lead and the Yellow Jackets never looked back. Dwyer would push the advantage to 21-10 on 2-yard run and then Nesbitt gave GA. Tech a 28-10 lead just before the half when he hit Stephen Hill on a 32-yard TD strike.
It didn’t get any better for the Blue Devils in the third quarter as Dwyer scored his second TD of the game on a 12-yard run then Nesbitt returned to the air, finding Demaryius Thomas on a 75-yard touchdown pass to continue the bruising and it was 42-10 heading into the fourth quarter.
Richard Watson wrapped up the scoring for the Yellow Jackets late in the final quarter when he scored on a 7-yard run and Georgia Tech reserved their spot in Tampa where they will play in the ACC championship game.
Tech outgained Duke 519-281 which included 306 yards rushing compared to just 25 for the Blue Devils.
