AP Top 25 College Football Rankings Week 12: Florida Gators Hold #1 Spot, Alabama Crimson Tide Reclaim #2 as Texas Longhorns Drop to #3
The Florida Gators continued their march for a second consecutive BCS national championship on Saturday, getting past South Carolina with little trouble and holding their #1 ranking in the AP Top 25 college football rankings this week. Florida has already clinched a spot in the SEC championship game and they’ll be facing the Alabama Crimson Tide in what is already being billed as the national championship game.
Alabama jumped back into the #2 spot this week in the AP Top 25 after punishing Mississippi State on Saturday. That win moved them past the Texas Longhorns who embarrassed Baylor in a Big 12 battle. The Longhorns likely control their destiny and if they win out they will almost certainly find themselves in the BCS national championship game facing the winner of the Florida-Alabama game.
TCU held firm to their #4 spot in the AP Top 25 after crushing Utah in what was likely their final test of the year. The Horned Frogs still have an outside shot at playing in the BCS national title game but they would need Texas to fall.
Saturday did little in clearing up the BCS bowl showdowns though as Cincinnati, which won on Friday, and Boise State remained undefeated, leaving six teams without a loss and only one of those teams, either Florida or Alabama, will be guaranteed a loss.
