NFL Scores: New Orleans Saints Sloppy but Stay Perfect with Road Win Over St. Louis Rams

Reggie Bush collected a total of 98 yards rushing and receiving and scored a pair of touchdowns, Drew Brees threw for 228 yards and two TDs and Devery Henderson had 72 yards receiving on four catches and the New Orleans Saints (9-0) overcame three turnovers to beat the St. Louis Rams (1-8) 28-23 on Sunday.

After a scoreless first quarter the Saints managed to get on the board in the opening minute of the second as Reggie Bush scored on a 3-yard run for a 7-0 advantage. St. Louis answered the Saints score with a TD of their own as Marc Bulger found Donnie Avery on a 29-yard toss to even the score at 7-7. New Orleans jumped back in front 14-7 on their next possession when Bush hauled in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Brees but with 55 seconds left in the half Steven Jackson scored on a 2-yard run for the Rams and the game was tied 14-14 at the break.

New Orleans grabbed their third lead of the game on the opening kickoff of the third quarter as Courtney Roby went 97-yards for a touchdown and the Saints were in front 21-14. The Rams tried to hang with the Saints and Josh Brown cut the deficit to 21-17 with a 32-yard field goal and that four-point margin would remain heading into the fourth quarter.

It looked like the Saints had the game under control early in the final frame as Robert Meachem scored on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Brees but the Rams wouldn’t go away and with 2:44 left in the game Avery scored on a 19-yard pass from Bulger to get within 28-23 and that score would remain when the two-point attempt failed. After stopping the Saints the Rams got the ball back with just over two minutes and managed to get down to the New Orleans 32-yard line before their comeback attempt ran out of time.
