Antonella Barba, the 20-year-old New Jersey native at the center of an American Idol controversy, has taken away one valuable lesson from her experience on the hit reality show, “I’ve learned to be careful who you trust.”
That lesson was learned the hard way as Barba became the focus of the sixth season of American Idol and it wasn’t for her voice. Photographs of the brunette in various poses surfaced on the internet and caused a heated debate amongst those who felt she should be removed from the show for the nature of the pictures.
Barba, who was eliminated from the Idol competition last Thursday, admitted that the buzz surrounding the pictures was a distraction but she tried to stay focused saying, “I tried to stay focused on the competition. All that other stuff was irrelevant.”
After it was revealed that she would not be in the American Idol top 12, Barba addressed the issue at hand saying “These were photos of my personal life that got exploited without my consent.”
Barba went on to say “I keep getting told that no publicity is bad publicity, but, you know, I'm not known for this thing that I want to be known for, which is singing.” That publicity has led to reported offers from Girls Gone Wild and Playboy but Barba has insisted she would not be involved with anything of that nature.
Antonella insisted, “I don't want to be known for that,” continuing “I'd rather promote myself in a classy way.”
