The body of missing 5-year-old Shaniya Davis was found Monday
in Fayetteville, North Carolina. About 200 people began searching for the child’s
body after police received “reliable information” that she was dead. The search
focused on land near a roadway because authorities had reason to believe the
body had been dumped there.
Searchers located Shanyia’s body around 1 p.m., only
hours after her father Bradley Lockhart appeared on the Today Show and begged
for her safe return.
Shaniya was reported missing last Tuesday by her mother
Antoinette Nicole Davis. Davis claimed her daughter disappeared from their
mobile home in Fayetteville.
Police say Davis was “prostituting her child.” She is
charged with human trafficking, child abuse involving prostitution, filing a
false police report and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer.
A man identified as Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, has been
charged with first-degree kidnapping in Shaniya’s disappearance. Hotel
surveillance footage taken around the time Shaniya went missing shows her with
McNeill. McNeill was arrested Friday and has reportedly admitted to taking
Shaniya.
Charges against Clarence Coe, who was arrested Thursday
in connection with the case, have been dropped.
