Family Referral Best Way to Find the Right Drug Rehab

Mother of recovered addict sets forth to help others to find addiction treatment that works.

When Sharon was looking for a drug rehab program for her daughter, the entire family did not know where to turn. “When there is an addiction in the family, you feel embarrassed because you don’t want anyone to know,” she explains in a recent interview. “You research what is close to you because as a parent you feel you need to control the situation and then you find out that the treatment facilities close to you do not have the success rate that is high enough.  There is also the trust factor because there are so many different things on the Internet and you don’t know if the treatment is going to work or not.

“Like many families, we were not familiar with rehabilitation options,” she adds. “We had no experience with it and the cost factor came into play and the insurance as well.  We were in quite a difficult situation.”

At the end of the day Sharon and her husband decided that despite all the barriers, they had to do something to help their daughter by sending her into a program that delivered successful drug treatment. Thanks to her husband who called local government officials as well as licensing groups to reinforce their decision, the family sent their daughter to the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. “I think the deciding factor for us is that we got enough information and did enough research to know that this felt like it was the right choice,” says Sharon.

And as a result their daughter is now celebrating 9 years drug-free and Sharon explains that what started as a nightmare turned into a miracle, a fairy tale story. “Knowing that our daughter is drug-free makes us feel this peace in our hearts.  We know that this was because of the practical knowledge she learned at Narconon that helped her conquer her addiction for good.”

Because of Sharon’s successes with her daughter through Narconon, she decided to set forth on a journey to help others to find the Narconon program. “I decided that because of my daughter’s success I wanted to share my story with others. I now had a solution to other people’s problems. It became so important that I share that.”

Sharon joined the Narconon Field Representative team and has been working to help send people into the Narconon program for several years now. The Narconon Field Representative team is a group of people, Narconon graduates, family members and friends that have decided to help others to get treatment through the residential drug rehab programs.  Narconon has been helping people to permanently recovery from addiction since 1966 and currently operates over 120 centers in 44 different countries.

“Anytime I have been able to help someone by sending them to Narconon and educating them on addiction is a huge gain for me personally,” Sharon explains. “Addiction is a life or death problem and if I can save one person, one family by telling them my own story then I have done my job.”
