During the same time period, gross profit increased slightly by 0.5% to $114.2 million from $113.6 million in the first nine months of 2008. Operating income in the first nine months of 2009 was $43.9 million compared to $51.9 million in the first nine months of 2008. Net income attributable to controlling interest for the first nine months of 2009 was $29.7 million, compared to $39.2 million in the prior year period.

BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:BCRX) decreases 7.71% to $11.37 after the company announced that it is offering to sell, to market and other conditions, 5,000,000 shares of its common stock pursuant to an effective shelf registration statement in an underwritten public offering. BioCryst also intends to grant the underwriters a 30 day option to purchase up to an aggregate of 750,000 additional shares of common stock to cover over allotments, if any.
