LeBron James returned to the line-up to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers (40-25) past the Memphis Grizzlies (16-50) 118-96. James finished with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists one day after being a late scratch in last night’s game against the Sacramento Kings due to back spasms.
Drew Gooden added 10 points and 12 boards while Zydrunas Ilgauskas dropped 18 as Cleveland had seven players finish in double figures for their seventh straight win.
Memphis was up 11-8 early in the first but Cleveland went on a 20-4 run and led at the end of the opening quarter 36-25. The Grizzlies were able to cut into the lead in the second and were within four, 44-40, when the Cavs launched a 14-5 run to push their lead back to 13. The third quarter was no kinder to the Grizzlies as they could hit just four shots from the field compared to the 14 made by Cleveland. By the end of the third Cleveland was up 97-63 and the game was in the bag.
Rudy Gay led the Grizzlies with 24 points while Pau Gasol added 23 points and 10 boards.
