Steve Nash finished with 31 points, 16 assists and 7 rebounds while Amare Stoudemire poured in 41 points and grabbed 10 off the glass to lead the Phoenix Suns (50-14) pas the Dallas Mavericks (52-11) 129-127 in double-overtime.
Nash scored 10 of his points in the final minute of regulation to cap a 16 point rally and force overtime.
In the first overtime Phoenix was up five with 47 seconds remaining but Jason Terry hit a bucket and followed that with a long three-pointer to tie the score 120-120 with four seconds left on the clock.
Dallas jumped to a 122-120 lead in the second overtime but Phoenix ran off seven straight points to take a five point lead with 1:38 remaining. Jerry Stackhouse cut the Mavericks deficit to two with a three-pointer. Shawn Marion then made a layup and Dirk Nowitzki answered with a short jumper to make the score 129-127 with 57 seconds left. Nash then missed a 17-footer and Dallas had one more chance but Nowitzki couldn’t find the bottom of the bucket on a 14-footer as time expired.
Nowitzki finished with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists while Stackhouse added 30 points in the loss.
