Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (NYSE:WSM) soared 2% to $21.48 after it said Thursday that it earned $7.3 million, or 7 cents a share, in the third quarter, compared to a loss of $11 million, or 10 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Revenue fell to $729 million from $752 million. On an adjusted basis, the kitchen-goods retailer earned 16 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet Research estimated, on average, earnings per share of 5 cents and sales of $689 million. For 2009 the company sees revenue in the range of $2.98 billion to $3.04 billion compared to the FactSet average of $2.93 billion.
Williams-Sonoma, Inc. is a specialty retailer of products for the home. The retail segment of the Company’s business sells its products through five retail store concepts: Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, West Elm and Williams-Sonoma Home. The direct-to-customer segment of the Company’s business sells similar products through its seven direct-mail catalogs and through six e-commerce Websites.
