New Online Poker Website Coming from Loto-Quebec

Loto-Quebec wants in. They are planning to launch a new online poker gaming website. The online poker market is thriving, which is something Mr. Alain Cousineau, the chairman of Loto-Quebec, discussed at a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Montreal. Loto-Quebec is proposing through the Chamber of Commerce of Montreal Metropolitan in hopes that the provincial government will reform the online poker gambling law so that they can get into this profitable market. Five other provinces do allow online gambling. Mr. Alain Cousineau pointed out that there are over 2,000 websites with online poker gambling that are, although illegal, accessible within the province of Quebec. Coincidentally, the Institute of Statistics of Quebec presented their study on alcohol and drug consumption, which showed that 21 percent of Quebecois secondary school students have already played poker, gambling money with friends in 2008. This is an increase from 15 percent in 2006.
According to The Gazette, online poker gambling websites should be available for Quebecers by next summer through regulated, secure, government websites. However, if the provincial government rejects this proposal nothing with change when it comes to online poker gaming. It will remain illegal.
The Kahnawake Reservation has been known for being a place of interactive gaming. The website for the Kahnawake Gaming Commission lists over 200 permit holders. Chairman Dean Montour brought up the fact that the Kahnawake Gaming Commission has held a great relationship with online gaming regulators all over the world for ten years.
The Quebec government has not yet responded to the proposal from Loto-Quebec to change the laws for online poker gaming. If it is allowed online gaming will be regulated by the government, which can reduce underage players. With the law changed the government can regulate and supervise online poker gaming.
