Boston Red Sox outfielder Jason Bay has declined the club’s initial contract offer and is planning to test the free agent market.
While no figures were released it is believed Bay turned down a four-year deal worth about $60 million, a figure that will likely rise when teams start bidding for his services. Bay hit .267 with 36 home runs and 119 RBIs in 2009, his first full-year with the club.
Bay, along with St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday, are considered the top two left fielders now on the market.
